about image  About AFYA, Inc.
AFYA, Inc. (AFYA) is a technical and professional services firm founded in 1991 to positively impact the health and well being of underserved populations. We design and support projects that facilitate access to care, help remove barriers to an optimum quality of life, and help integrate healthy individuals and families into their communities. We have been contracted by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) to provide logistical and meeting planning support.

About the Program
VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) a program of CNCS, is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965, and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years. The program provides full-time members to nonprofit, faith-based and other community organizations, and public agencies to create and expand programs that bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency.

About the Training
About 6,000 VISTAs are placed each year in more than 1,200 projects in low-income communities around the country. The Pre-Service Orientation (PSO) Training is the starting point of a volunteer's year of service as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member. This training is a final opportunity to ensure that the VISTA program is right for the volunteer and the VISTA program. VISTAs meet and network with fellow VISTAs to cultivate support systems that are valuable throughout the year of service. Additionally, skill sets are honed and developed to prepare them for life as an AmeriCorps VISTA member. The country is divided into five clusters. Each cluster typically hosts 4-6 Cluster Trainings each year. Each training is held over a 4-day period and requires sleeping rooms, food and beverage, meeting space, and AV (audio visual).
